Both Mogán and San Bartolomé de Tirajana, the two main municipalities of south Gran Canaria, have announced property tax cuts for next year.
The Ayuntamiento de Mogán is cutting its IBI tax rate by 6% from 0,68 to 0,64%. It is also offering a further IBI tax rebate of 15% for properties that install solar heating or electrical systems. This cut is valid for the three years after the system is installed. These cuts apply in Puerto de Mogán, Puerto Rico, Arguineguín and all other parts of the Mogán Municipality such as Tauro, Playa del Cura and Pasito Blanco.
The San Bartolomé de Tirajana Ayuntamiento, which covers all of Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas and San Agustín, has cut its IBI tax rate to 0.57%. It has also reduced its annual tax on vehicles to the minimum allowed by law. The exact rate depends on the type of vehicle.
THe annual IBI tax is levied on the cadastral value of a property and the value of the land a property is built on, or the share of the land assigned to a property that is part of a building or bungalow complex.
This useful guide explains the total annual cost of owning a south Gran Canaria property.
