The Mogán Town Hall has announced a project to pedestrianize the road next to Las Marañuelas beach in Arguineguín town.
The 2.6-million-euro project, now out to public tender, will transform the beachfront from a busy road to a wide pedestrian boulevard with bike lanes, improved beach access, benches and shade pergolas. Electrical and telecoms cables will be moved underground and the whole area will be levelled to improve access.
The whole of Calle Miguel Marrero Rodríguez will be car-free while Calle Tomás Morales, parallel to the beachfront, will also be pedestrianised, as will Calle Miguel Marrero Rodríguez, which connects them both to the La Lajilla roundabout. Both will be redesigned to allow access for emergency vehicles and resident garages. Traffic will still be allowed on Avenida El Muelle at the south end of the beach to allow access to the harbour
The project is expected to take around eight months with the new pedestrian boulevard finished in time for the summer of 2024.
