With 15 Blue Flag beaches, two Blue Flag marinas and one Blue Flag path, Gran Canaria now has a record number of awards from the FEE and more than any of the other Canary Islands.
Sardina beach in Galdar, Arinaga beach in Agüimes and La Garita beach in Telde are the three new Gran Canaria Blue Flag beaches while the coastal path that runs the length of Las Canteras beach in the capital Las Palmas also got a new Blue Flag path award.
Beaches only win a prestigious Blue Flag if they have clean water, easy access (including disabled access), facilities such as bathrooms, and environmental safeguards and education resources.
South Gran Canaria currently has six blue flag beaches; San Agustín, Maspalomas, Meloneras and El Inglés in San Bartolomé de Tirajana; and Amadores and Mogán in Mogán.
The other Gran Canaria beaches to hold Blue Flags in 2017 are Las Canteras in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; Hoya del Pozo, Salinetas, Melenara and La Garita in Telde; and El Puertillo y Los Charcones in Arucas.
Pasito Blanco and Mogán marinas also got Blue Flag awards recognising their clean water, facilities and environmental efforts.
Mogan municipality is working hard to extend Blue Flag status to its other beaches and especially to Patalavaca, Puerto Rico, Playa del Cura and Las Marañuelas in Arguineguin town.
