Fiestas del Carmen, Arguineguín, Gran Canaria, 2009
Published in Living in Gran Canaria, NewsSlowly life gets back to normal after a good week of fiestas in Arguineguin. At last the local population and the tourist who were lucky enough to be in the area around this time of the year can get their beauty sleep again. Sunday morning the patron saint of seamen, La Virgen del Carmen, seemed very pleased to see the sea of people in the port of Arguineguin when they took her down from the church, made her bow in front of the tiny altar of the port and then placed her in her boat to parade all the way to Puerto Mogan. If you have never seen this spectacle, you must come and visit our beautiful island once out of the winter season in July, when the nights of fiestas and balmy breezes seem to last for ever and the sea is so inviting with its refreshing waves!
